I built this HR Complaints Tracker with Notion in less than 3 hours..
Here’s how I did it, and most importantly: WHY I did it.
Last night I couldn’t sleep.
Then by 9AM, I started building a new Notion system for HR & Compliance teams:
An HR Investigations & Complaints Tracker ✅

A simple dashboard to manage internal complaints from report to resolution.
It took less than 3 hours.
That’s a massive improvement – the learning curve magic is happening.
Here’s how I did it:

1- Validated the idea: Checked online marketplaces + community forums for anything near to what I had in mind. I used my previous experience managing HR Complaints and Compliance Investigations. And I was aware of the pain points, the minimal requirement and what a “successful template” would look like.
2- Defined the goal: Keep it simple, log complaints, assign actions, track status
3- Started from scratch: On a blank page, I created 2 linked databases (Complaints + Corrective Actions).
4- Kept only essentials: Fields, tags, statuses, one formula… no extras features. I always start with an MVP .. and it always works.
5- Filled with sample data: To test and iterate.

6- Linked fields + formulas: For clarity, filtering, and automation.
7- Built the views: I focused on minimal “List” views for clarity (no gallery, no boards this time)
8- Added key metrics: Time-to-close, severity filters, cases count..
9- Polished the layout: I aimed for a clean homepage, minimal design, subtle color use..
10- Uploaded to the store, priced it, and that’s it 😎
